About the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio
We have been transformed into a world-class children’s hospital – both inside and out. In a typical year, we project that we will provided inpatient care to 5,000 children, 80,000 emergency department visits (including our downtown campus and our freestanding pediatric emergency center in Westover Hills), and 73,000 outpatients visits.

In February 2013, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio finalized agreements with Texas’ top pediatric medical providers, Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital. Baylor College of Medicine recruits, employs, and oversees physicians. Texas Children’s Hospital provides consulting and clinical expertise for The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.
About Rehab Without Walls NeuroSolutions
When Rehab Without Walls® started over 30 years ago, we imagined helping brain injury, spinal cord injury and stroke patients in a new way: blending scientifically backed rehab protocols with the patient’s real-life activities. It’s a combination that delivers better results during the recovery journey and into the future.
Today, our rehab services are still removing walls, breaking barriers and rebuilding lives. But in addition to our groundbreaking home and community rehab, we’re also providing services in residential facilities and outpatient clinics.
About Nexus Health Systems
Dr. John Cassidy founded Nexus Health Systems in 1992 to fill a void in the treatment of patients with brain injuries. Recruited from Harvard and a leader of the neurobehavioral medical movement, Dr. Cassidy created a continuum of care beginning with Touchstone or “The Ranch” – now known as Nexus Neurorecovery Center – affording residential care delivering a quiet, rural environment for patients to receive all-encompassing rehabilitation and neurological care.
Shortly after, Dr. Cassidy expanded the health system to include the Specialty Hospital and Nexus Children’s Hospital Houston. Ensuring no patients fell between the cracks, all Nexus facilities were developed to help reduce handicaps to deficits through comprehensive care.
Since the beginning, Nexus has been known as innovators, reframing what rehabilitation should provide patients. Dr. Cassidy’s model takes the entire person in view to understand specifically what has happened to the brain to better predict challenges and create strategies. This neuropsychiatry foundation allows our team to identify underlying neurological impairments and devise a purposeful recovery plan. Continuing this vision today, all of Nexus’ treatment plans are individualized, encompassing behavioral, interpersonal, physical, and emotional rehabilitation so patients can integrate back in the community.
As the pioneer of neurobehavioral rehabilitation, Nexus Health Systems affords acquired and traumatic brain injury patients and their families a compassionate and encouraging environment to work towards recovery. Always putting our patients first, Nexus’ approach to care includes interdisciplinary medical teams working together to understand and remediate challenges.
Regardless of where our patients are receiving care, Nexus affords families peace of mind. Providing those who suffered a brain injury a prosthetic environment, Nexus Health Systems has created a safe place for patients to test their limits and explore possibilities. Our overarching goal is to return patients to productive and meaningful lives – and we do so by mending minds.
